Placenta

          What is placenta? Placenta is an organ that grows in the uterus during pregnancy to supply oxygen and nutrients to the growing baby. Placenta has three side, one is maternal side where the placenta to the mother’s uterine wall, other side is baby’s side, baby’s side there is a cord that in general attached to the center of the placenta.

In General Placenta get attached to any side of the uterine wall, if the placenta is attached to the front wall of uterus, then it is known to be Anterior Placenta

 Anterior Placenta

  An Anterior placenta generally does not affect the pregnancy or health of the fetus. However, let us see few facts on it.

Anterior Placenta sit between the front of the stomach and the fetus. Most of the time fertilized egg get implanted on posterior wall, so along with that placenta get formed on the same wall, suppose if the placenta is formed on anterior wall of the uterus, then that placenta is known to be anterior placenta.

          Sometimes having a placenta in the anterior wall made the pregnant mother to feel the less movements of the baby. At times, doctor find hard to detect the fetal heartbeat.

Complications

Although an anterior placenta is not usually a cause for concern, some studies have shown that the placement of a placenta could affect the outcome of the pregnancy.

One study indicated that women with an anterior placenta might have an increased risk of the following complications:

  • pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • intrauterine growth restriction
  • gestational diabetes
  • placental abruption

anterior placenta will not usually cause any issues, other symptoms can indicate a problem with the placenta.

A woman should call her doctor immediately if she notices any of the following symptoms:

  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fast or constant contractions
  • Decreased fetal movement
  • Severe back pain
  • Firmness in the uterus
